About STRIDE Map
STRIDE Map is an interactive visual analytics platform for exploring educational inequalities and education policy reforms across Europe. It brings together longitudinal educational indicators and a curated reform database so researchers, policymakers, educators, and stakeholders can examine how outcomes evolve over time and how they might relate to policy interventions.
Two Linked Environments
Indicators Interface
The indicators environment visualises educational inequality indicators through interactive maps, timelines, heatmaps, comparative charts, and country-level analysis. Users can examine patterns across dimensions such as gender, socio-economic status, migration background, and school location.
Policy Reform Interface
The reform environment is dedicated to the exploration of education policy reforms across Europe. Users can filter reforms by educational level, reform type, coverage, evaluation status, country, and time period, while accessing reform summaries and detailed descriptions.
Types of reforms include
Curriculum reforms
Changes to curriculum content, learning objectives, or educational programmes.
Laws / regulations of access reforms
Reforms aimed at changing the educational system or increasing access to education.
System of evaluation / exams reforms
Reforms targeting assessment systems, final examinations, or admission procedures.
Special education reforms
Reforms focused on students with special educational needs and inclusive education measures.
Teacher education or employment reforms
Reforms concerning teacher preparation, recruitment, qualifications, or employment conditions.
Unspecified reforms
Reforms that were not sufficiently described in the databases to allow clear categorisation.
Data Sources
STRIDE Map integrates harmonised indicators derived from large-scale international assessment surveys with a curated collection of education policy reforms implemented across European countries since 1993. The platform is designed to make cross-country comparison, longitudinal inspection, and subgroup analysis possible within one coherent interface.
Country Comparison
Compare countries through maps, bar charts, timelines, and detailed country-level views.
Inequality Analysis
Explore educational indicators across multiple dimensions and breakdowns.
Downloadable Data
Access indicator datasets and reform outputs for further analysis and reporting.
Linking Outcomes And Reform Timelines
A core feature of STRIDE Map is the temporal linking of reforms with educational indicator trends. This helps users explore possible relationships between policy interventions and developments in educational inequalities over time, while keeping the underlying country, year, and subgroup context visible.
The platform aims to support evidence-based education policy analysis by offering an integrated environment for exploring educational outcomes, inequalities, and policy developments in Europe. Pilot natural-language exploration workflows are also being developed alongside the data interfaces.
