The full list of indicators is long, so it is narrowed down using two filters:

Subject

Mathematics, science, reading, or civic and citizenship.

Measure

The way student performance is reported: a Mean score, a Score as % of national average, a Group score ratio, a Relative score, or the Low performers (%) share.

Changing either filter updates the "Select an indicator" list below to only show matching indicators. See Quick Help for a full guide on how to read each measure's values.

Step 1: Select an educational level

Choose the educational level you want to explore. The available indicators and years will update automatically.

Step 2: Filter the indicators

Use the two filters to narrow the list:

• Subject: Mathematics, science, reading, or civic and citizenship.
• Measure: The way student performance is reported, such as a score, percentage, ratio, or share of low performers.

Step 3: Select an indicator

Choose an indicator from the dropdown list. Pay attention to the order of the groups named in the indicator. For example, a male-to-female ratio compares the score of male students with the score of female students.

Step 4: Select a year

Choose the year to display. Only years with available data for the selected indicator are listed. The year control is disabled when the indicator does not have a year dimension.

Step 5: Refine the view

Open More Options to select an available breakdown or other indicator-specific options. The choices vary depending on the selected indicator.

How to Read the Values

Mean score

An average assessment score reported in score points, with higher values indicating higher average performance.

Score as % of national average

Compares one group's average score with the national average for all students: 100% = equal to the national average, 97% = 3% below, 105% = 5% above.

Group score ratio

Compares the average scores of two groups: the first group named in the indicator against the second. 1.00 = the two groups score the same, 0.97 = the first group scores 3% lower, 1.05 = 5% higher. A male-to-female ratio of 1.02 means male students scored 2% higher on average than female students.

Relative score

Compares a specific combined group (e.g. gender, migration background, location, or parental socioeconomic status) with the national average: 1.00 = equal performance, 0.95 = the group scores 5% lower, 1.04 = 4% higher.

Low performers (%)

The percentage of students performing below a threshold defined by the respective survey, from 0% to 100% — a higher percentage means more students are classified as low performers.
